Calling all humanists! The Bahamas were devastated from Hurricane Dorian. You can help!
Hurricane Dorian made landfall as a Category 5 hurricane in the Bahamas on September 1, 2019. While remaining a Category 5 with wind speeds peaking at 185mph, Dorian’s traveling speed slowed to 1mph effectively stalling over Grand Bahama island for almost two days making this the worst disaster in Bahamian history. Latest reports attribute 67 deaths to the storm and a reported 282 people remain missing. 13,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed and economic losses are around $7 billion, which is half the country’s gross national product.
About the Deployment
In April 2020, FBB is deploying to the Bahamas to help rebuild with All Hands and Hearts: Smart Response (AHAH). We have previously worked with AHAH on our Florida, Puerto Rico, Houston, and Louisiana deployments. AHAH’s work in the Bahamas is currently focused on repairing the school that is their base of operations and working on a school that serves students living with developmental disabilities.

About Volunteering
The deployment will be from April 27th through May 10th. Space is limited. Volunteers who commit to the full two weeks will receive priority placement, followed by volunteers who commit to one week. Volunteers signing up for less than a week will fill the remaining slots on a first come first serve basis.
Travel assistance may be available. Please contact us if travel assistance would allow you to come or allow you to come for longer. Note that Southwest travel vouchers have been available for previous deployments are not available for the Bahamas location.
Never done this before? Don’t worry. You will receive training in whatever work you'll be performing. Housing will be provided at AHAH’s base camp. This is a communal living situation with co-ed dorm rooms with bunk beds and blow up mattresses. On work days you will also be provided with three meals, snacks, and water.
