In response to ongoing abuses of women's rights in the name of fundamentalist Islam, Ayaan Hirsi Ali (right) and her supporters established the AHA Foundation in 2007 as a charitable organization to help protect and defend the rights of women in the West against militant Islam. The AHA Foundation has four central activities: INFORM: In 2010, AHA created a resource directory for Muslim girls and women in the New York area who are in distress. INVESTIGATE: Compiled information for Congressional staff on European practices to combat crimes against Muslim girls and women. We have also compiled research on female genital mutilation statutes in the U.S. and prepared suggestions on how these laws can be strengthened to better protect girls and women. INFLUENCE: Report forthcoming on freedom of speech in the U.S. and encroachments and threats of violence via political Islam against corporations and authors. INTERVENE: Muslim girls and women who are in distress have contacted the Foundation for advice on how to avoid violence; we have put these women in touch with vetted and trusted partners. We have been contacted by leading medical institutions and other first responders for advice on helping Muslims girls and women in distress and are preparing an informational/educational brochure for use around the country by first-responders.
