Small Grant Awardee gives scholarship

hafree-logoDuring Q1 of 2015, Hispanic American Freethinkers were our Small Grant Awardee, with a monetary gift, they gave a scholarship to a deserving student.

According to David Tomayo, President, “ Last year we had great participation in the program with about a dozen students applying.  The good thing is that it generated a great buzz in many high schools encouraging others to look for other sources of funding for education.  It was very tough to select the right person, but after careful scrutiny, we had a winner.

David - Scholarship 2015The winner was David Hernandez, an excellent student who comes from a very poor family, an extremely poor school, and who has worked very hard to get accepted and  is successful in a very special college medicine program at Brown University. This program accepts students directly from high school into an eight- -year-long program whereby at the end, they come out with a doctorate in medicine.  There are no MCATs, re-applying to medical school after getting a bachelor’s degree in something else, etc. They only accept very specially talented and smart students and he is in this program.”

David Hernandez was featured in the article Goal Keeper by Phoebe Hall in Brown Medical Magazine, Winter, 2016.

Congratulations to David Hernandez
