Humanist recovery and A+ treatment
05 Mar 2019
At least 23 people, including children, have died in Alabama as a result of a string of tornadoes.
The National Weather Service classified at least one of the tornadoes that touched down in Alabama as an EF-3, meaning it was at least half a mile wide with winds between 158–206 mph.
President Trump tweeted, "FEMA has been told directly by me to give the A Plus treatment to the Great State of Alabama and the wonderful people who have been so devastated by the Tornadoes." Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has committed state funds for recovery. And Foundation Beyond Belief is pledging our support to Alabama through our Humanist Disaster Recovery program. We are setting aside funds specifically for secular recovery work in Alabama.
Meanwhile, Puerto Rico and the wonderful people who are still rebuilding 16 months after the devastation of Hurricanes Irma and Maria (and a botched FEMA recovery effort) deserve the A Plus treatment as well. As part of our ongoing collaboration with All Hands and Hearts, FBB will be in Puerto Rico next week with a group from Secular Student Alliance to help with recovery efforts.
