Beyond Belief Network: Frightful service events for October

By

Some of our Beyond Belief Network teams have successfully combined their spirit of community service with the spookiness of the season. What a frightfully fantastic combination! For this special edition blog, we’re going to highlight some of these recent service events

CCA1Corpus Christi Atheists collected donations of costumes, candy and bags for the children housed by the Women's Shelter of South Texas to help the kids have a great Halloween while they are in need.

SF2Spooky Science is the annual Halloween event at the Kirby Science Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Volunteers from Siouxland Freethinkers assisted with the event, leading activity stations exploring heat absorption and kaleidoscopes, running the slime-o-tron, and handing out samples of bugs for the kids to eat.

LVHOf course, October isn’t about only about collecting candy; it’s also about raising funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society! Two BBN teams recently participated in Light the Night Walks. Lehigh Valley Humanists participated with twenty-one walkers and raised about $1,000.  Also, three members of South Jersey Humanists supported their Light the Night walk in Sewell, NJ. The team raised $555 for the event, ranking them as the #6 "corporate team."

Remember BBN teams! It’s not too late to participate in an service event this month. Don’t forget to tell us about the event and show us the best pictures of your team in action via the event report.
