BBN Heart of Humanism awards announced

By

We are thrilled to announce the winners of our latest Heart of Humanism Awards. This year’s awards recognize the outstanding community service of local groups who are part of our Beyond Belief Network program who made extraordinary contributions to compassionate humanism.

In addition to being eligible for these awards, our BBN teams are also eligible for perks such as t-shirts, and the opportunity to apply for grants for service projects. Congratulations to this year’s winners! The winners for 2016 are:

Humanism at Work: This is our top award awarded to the team with the most volunteer hours in 2016 and the winning team is Humanist Alliance Philippines, International. HAPI is our only international team and focuses on literacy and the environment.

Best Photo: You can see the winning photo by Central Ohio United Non-Theists above.

Gimme Food and Shelter: This is awarded to the team with outstanding contributions to causes related to homelessness and food. In 2016, Tri-State Freethinkers volunteered at and held events for several different organizations addressing homelessness and food. Including Hosea House, The Giving Fields, and Freestore Foodbank.

Humanist Communication: Our winners for communication are Pikes Peak Atheists & Pikes Peak Atheist Families because they always send great photos and details of their events, like the time they found mannequin parts during their cleanup.

Eat. Sleep. Volunteer. Repeat. Awarded to the team with the most volunteer events in that calendar year. This year’s winner, Austin Humanists at Work, had 57 events in 2016.

Backbone volunteers: Awarded to a team that played a consistent and reliable role in a local organization. This year’s winner, Flagstaff Freethinkers, not only held a monthly event at a local food center that serves families experiencing homelessness, they also stepped in when needed at the last minute three times as well as doing a food drive for the center.

Rookie of the Year: Our winner in this category, South Texas Atheists for Reason (STAR), was one of the most active teams across the board, not just among new teams. They had the second most events of any team with 56.

We are so grateful to all of the BBN teams that work so hard making their communities better every day. For more information on how you can join a group in your area or how your local team can join the Beyond Belief Network, please go to our website.
