April Team of the Month: Fellowship of Freethought Dallas

Congratulations to Beyond Belief Network’s April Team of the Month: Fellowship of Freethought Dallas (FoFD)! Based in Dallas, TX, they are currently a Level One team. FoFD was chosen for Team of the Month recognition because of their continued work with local organizations as well as their ability to quickly organize a service event.

Among some of their regular service events, Fellowship of Freethought Dallas prepares a monthly meal for the Supper Club program of AIDS Services of Dallas. AIDS Services of Dallas is a 501(c)3 organization that provides medically supportive housing to low-income persons living with HIV/AIDS. The Supper Club program provides residents with a hot, nutritious, home-cooked meal every night. In February, FoFD volunteers fixed food with a Cajun theme for a belated Mardi Gras. There was unexpected bad weather in Dallas so they made extra for the residents to have as leftovers. In March, the team prepared a belated St. Patrick's Day themed meal.

At the team’s monthly Women of Reason dinner, they collect feminine hygiene supplies to be donated to a local homeless shelter. These items are often one of the most neglected items for donation for poverty assistance. They’ve done this successfully for three months.

FoFD also participates in a bi-monthly Adopt-a-Highway cleanup. Their most recent cleanup was in April. For Easter, they donated items for Easter Baskets to the Community Partners of Dallas. The baskets were given to children in the CPS system by caseworkers.

Recently, Carter Blood Care (CBC) was desperately seeking donors as usually bad weather in Dallas, TX had their supplies/donations running low. FFD hosted a blood drive at their monthly gathering even though they'd only received CBC's request two weeks ago. They hoped to get at least 15 donations and they had 16.

Beyond Belief Network is proud of Fellowship of Freethought Dallas’s accomplishments and wishes them the best with their future service events.

Don’t forget Beyond Belief Network Teams! It’s not too late to register your  Week of Action service event! Just like last year, you'll be able to register your event on the Week of Action website, and we'll help get the word out about all the great volunteering opportunities. Whether or not you observe the National Day of Prayer or Reason, spend the last week of April acting.

Team of the Month recognition is a benefit provided by Foundation Beyond Belief to our Beyond Belief Network teams. In order to be considered, your group must be a Level One Beyond Belief Network team and you must submit at least one event report during the month. Team of the Month selection is based on the number, length, variety, and documentation (e.g., submitted pictures, blog posts, videos, etc.) of events.

Teams can only be Team of the Month once per calendar year. If your local group does great service work, but isn’t a member of BBN, you can join anytime! In addition to recognition, your team can qualify for free t-shirts and grants. If your local humanist group doesn’t volunteer, but you’d like to start, we’d love to help!
