The unique and powerful mission of 50 cents. Period. is to provide women’s health education and supplies to women in countries where there is a strong stigma against and ritual exclusion of menstruating women. These programs have a holistic effect on the lives of the women they serve, including education about their own health and human rights. Their programs in India are so popular and in need that they have a waiting list for inclusion in the program. Their focus on women’s health education and reproductive health are relevant to the UN Millennium Development Goals—particularly MDG 3, promote gender equality and empower women. This organization’s mission covers so many issues for women in developing countries that a donation will have amplified effects far beyond the initial impact. 50 cents. Period. also extends its programs to reach the significant refugee community in DeKalb County, Georgia.
