FBB now accepting applications for spring internship

31 Oct

Foundation Beyond Belief has been enriched by our slate of fall interns, and as they prepare to wrap up their programs, we’re looking for a new group of interns to join us in the spring! Desirable talents for the internship program include:

  • Self-discipline, self-direction, reliability
  • High personal motivation and perseverance
  • Enthusiasm for and commitment to the Foundation’s mission and approach
  • Demonstrated familiarity/involvement with the freethought community
  • Clear written communication skills
  • Creative problem-solving abilities

Experience in the nonprofit sector is not a requirement, but certainly a plus, as is experience in grant writing or other development capacities. Though interns will do work in several areas of Foundation operations, each internship includes a primary focus area, special project, and cause area assignment.

During the application process, you will be asked to select your top three focus areas and briefly explain why you’re drawn to each. Past focus areas have ranged from the humanist giving program to planning the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Light the Night walks to marketing and communications. Each intern cycle is different, with different needs, and while we make every effort to match interns with their selections, we also take into consideration other important factors such as Foundation needs and levels of intern experience.

The internship is a foray into both the inter-workings of a charitable nonprofit and the humanist movement. Past interns have found the experience was a unique opportunity to match their values with the opportunity to foster skills in management and communication. “My internship and continued relationship with FBB has broadened my perspective of how I can personally be involved in impacting the positive life-changing work of our beneficiaries and the humanist movement as a whole,” writes AJ Chalom, former Volunteers Beyond Belief program intern. “It has changed my life and inspired me to stretch myself, discover more talents, and learn about my passions in life.” Former intern Bridget Gaudette holds that her work with FBB “exposed [her] to humanist giving at its finest.”
