It's time to make plans to join us for the 2015 Humanism at Work conference, to be held on July 25 in Boston. The event will revolve around the theme #blacklivesmatter: listen, learn, think, discuss, act. This will be a one-day event that will include several talks, a panel discussion, and an awards dinner.
This unique event, which will be held at the Park Plaza hotel in Boston, will be keynoted by Sikivu Hutchinson, who will speak on the impetus for #blacklivesmatter and other issues relating to culturally relevant humanism/social justice and educational equity.
Also joining us to give 20 minute TED-style presentations will be Fiery Cushman, Assistant Professor of psychology at Harvard; Monica Miller, Assistant Professor of Religion and Africana Studies at Lehigh University; and Shane Slone, a fresh new voice on race relations in America.
FBB staff will be speaking about the exciting work being done around the world, including Rebecca Vitsmun, Conor Robinson, and AJ Chalom. This will also be the opportunity to say goodbye to the outgoing founder and executive director of FBB, Dale McGowan, and hello to the new director, Noelle George. Lastly, FBB will be giving out its Heart of Humanism awards at the dinner.
50% of the proceeds from this event will be given to a charity that fits the theme of the event, to be chosen in the coming weeks.
"We are excited to host this event, which will focus both on the work of Foundation Beyond Belief and on the fight for racial and social justice in the United States," said Noelle George, the new executive director of FBB. "In the wake of so many young black people killed by the police and the subsequent outrage and protests, it is especially important right now to elevate the voices of African-American scholars like Sikivu Hutchinson and Monica Miller and listen to what they have to say."
Tickets for the mini-conference and dinner are $125, but 10 student tickets are available at $49. Attendees will also get a special rate of $179 at the Park Plaza Hotel. For registration and further information about the speakers and schedule, go to our conference page.
