Welcome to VOLUNTEERS BEYOND BELIEF, a network of local freethought organizations putting compassionate humanism into action through community volunteering across the United States.
Volunteers Beyond Belief is part of Beyond Belief Network, a program of Foundation Beyond Belief, a non-profit organization created to focus, encourage, and demonstrate the generosity and compassion of secular humanists.
The national organization assists local teams in finding volunteer opportunities and in committing to a regular schedule of volunteer events, making hands-on volunteering a major part of their groups' activity and identity.
Groups hold service activities to benefit their local communities. The number of events determines the benefits that a team is eligible for. All new teams will start as Beyond Belief Network groups and will move up in the structure as they complete event reports.
Level one: four events in a calendar year (1 event may be a collection drive at a regular meeting) Level two: eight events in a year (2 events may be collection drives at regular meetings) Level three: twelve or more events in a year (can include Partners events; 3 may be collection drives)
What counts as an event? • A collection drive of coats, gifts, food, etc. at a regular meeting • Any service activity at all that your group does in the community as a team • Holding a fundraiser for a local non-profit (not your own) • Walking in Light The Night • Events must be submitted to the event report form to be counted
What are the benefits? Benefits to groups depend on how many events held in a calendar year. Groups do not have to have any events at all to be part of the Beyond Belief Network. Benefits of joining BBN are:
● Access to our Facebook page (for networking, idea guides) ● FBB newsletter list ● Updates, tips from BBN ● Request event promotion on FBB social media
Level one benefits (BBN, plus) ● 8 free shirts with logo option ● Vetting of potential volunteer beneficiaries if requested ● Personal FBB staff support in major charity initiatives as requested and available ● Discount on merchandise ● Invitation to monthly calls
Level two benefits (Level one, plus) ● Eligibility for awards (including monetary prizes) ● Eligibility for small grants ($250) ● Priority in promotion and vetting requests
Level three benefits (Level two, plus) ● Eligibility for larger grants up to $500, with larger grants considered for specific, appropriate, well-defined project development ● 12 additional t-shirts ● Highest priority in promotion and vetting requests
Organizations with a compatible humanist mission and who publicly identify as a secular humanist or atheist group are encouraged to consider joining the network by filling out the Beyond Belief Network team application online.
