FNVW lobbies against excessive defense spending and war on Iran

After weeks of social activism and lobbying, Q4 Challenge the Gap beneficiary Friends for a Non-Violent World (FNVW) has proudly announced that the Minneapolis City Council and the Duluth City Council followed the St. Paul City Council in passing the Minnesota Arms Spending Alternatives Project (MN ASAP) resolution. The legislation would “call for a reduction and redirection of Pentagon spending back to local communities,” as “taxpayer spending for war far exceeds the state’s budget deficit.” Each city council passed the MN ASAP resolution unanimously.

Currently, FNVW is spearheading a movement to fight Section 1221 of the National Defense Authorization Act, authorizing military action against Iran, which has already passed in the House of Representatives. Sec. 1221 states: “[I]t shall be the policy of the United States to take all necessary measures, including military action if required to prevent Iran from threatening the United States, its allies, or its neighbors with a nuclear weapon.” As FNVW notes, “This dangerous provision essentially states if Washington says that it thinks Iran is getting ready to make a nuclear weapon, then the U.S. has to go to war.” You can find more information on how to get involved in stopping this legislation by visiting the FNVW website.
