Why LLS? No one should have to live with cancer and manage their pain on their own

Tiffany Ewigleben, the team captain of the CFI Michigan Light the Night team, shares her reasons for being part of Foundation Beyond Belief’s partnership with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. You may remember Tiffany’s story from last December, when atheists and other freethinkers came together to send her home to see her mother (Ed Brayton and FBB board president Hemant Mehta both posted her story to their blogs). Tragically, her mother passed away before Tiffany could make it to her bedside.

Tiffany says on her LTN page:

My cause is deeply personal.

My mother had grace, compassion, and unending love for myself and her grandson. She was a beautiful, caring individual who lived with cancer for a year WITHOUT diagnosis. She managed and treated her pain ON HER OWN because she had no health insurance and struggled financially. NO ONE should have to do that.
She died alone. I live in another state, and was on my way to see her when I got the call that she had passed away in her sleep. I knew I was on my way to say goodbye, but I didn’t have the chance.

If she was here, she would be walking with me. She put everyone before herself. I miss her every day, and I don’t know of a better way to honor her memory than to participate in this effort.
