Quick Start Guide

Foundation Beyond Belief (FBB) is proud to announce that we are now a "Special Friend" team partner with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) for their Light The Night Walks. We will be the rallying point around which local freethought, atheist, and secular humanist groups will form teams to participate in Light the Night Walks.

Additional questions can be directed to Brittany Shoots-Reinhard (brittany@foundationbeyondbelief.org).

Q: My company matches charitable donations. Can we do this with LLS? If so, how?
A: Your company will provide you with the instructions on how to apply for a match and any guidelines or limits as determined by your employer. This may be an online process or a hard copy system. These forms will be submitted to LLS for donation verification. Check with your HR department on how to receive your match. Please note that some matching gift systems have very specific deadline, so keep that in mind when planning for your match. The LLS staff will assist you as needed.

Q: Where do I go to donate, or create or join a team?
A: To create or join a local team under the FBB banner click here. To join our "virtual team" as a fundraiser (for those not part of a local group and people outside the U.S./Canada) click here. You can also donate here.

Q: The LLS website did not let me create a team directly linked to the FBB international team?
A: LLS's LTN website does not have the capability of automatically linking local teams to the FBB international team. LLS will be doing this manually behind the scenes for each team that is created. Please make sure to include "FBB" at the end of your team name to make it easy for LLS to find your group and add them to the FBB international team. If your team does not get added to the FBB international team by two weeks after it is created, please contact please contact Breanna Baer (Breanna.Baer@lls.org) and she will put your group under the FBB team.

Q: Why is it so important to add "FBB" to the end of the name of my local group when creating a team?
A: LLS manually links local teams to the FBB international team. Having "FBB" at the end of your team name (for example, "Hitchville Freethinkers - FBB") makes it easy for LLS to find your team and link it.

Q: I live in Australia and there are Light The Night events here, but the FBB info says they are only in Canada and the U.S.?
A: The Light The Night Walks in Australia are wonderful events hosted by The Leukemia Foundation of Australia, an organization that is not affiliated with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. As such, since these events support another organization, money raised for them will not be able to be included in the total money raised by FBB. You can still support the FBB's LLS goal and matching challenge, by signing up as a "virtual walker" by clicking here. The option to donate to the team is also available.

Q: I am in a local group that would like to form a fundraising team, but we are not near a Light The Night Walk?
A: If you local group that is not near an LTN Walk, please contact Breanna Baer (Breanna.Baer@lls.org) and she will assign your group to a walk for which your group will be able to fundraise, but will not need to attend in person.

Q: I live outside of the U.S. Is my donation tax deductible?
A: You should check with your tax advisor as each country may have different requirements and processes. In Canada, if you make a C$25 (Canadian dollars) or more donation to LLS Canada it is tax deductible.

Q: My local area has many groups. Should we create multiple teams or one super team?
A: That is totally up to you. You are welcome to join as a local Coalition of Reason, for example, or as separate groups.

Q: My local group is affiliated with two FBB Allies, to which one should we direct the grant if we are a top fundraising team:
A: That decision is up to your group, but one option is simply to split it and grant half the amount to each FBB Ally.

Q: I see that LLS offers incentives like gift cards and shirts to individual fundraisers. Are those available to people overseas?
A: Unfortunately, for logistical and expense reasons, those incentive programs are only available to fundraisers in the U.S. and Canada.

Q: I have recently relocated and now live far away from my original walksite/team? Can I switch to a new team?
A: Absolutely! If you contact Breana Baer (Breanna.Baer@lls.org) with your current walksite/team and the walksite/team you would like to join, she will assist you.
