Responsible Charity Plans to Build a School in the Slums of Kolkata

Third-quarter poverty beneficiary Responsible Charity gave us this report about how they are using the funds contributed by members of Foundation Beyond Belief. Members donated $3,120 to Responsible Charity last quarter.

Dear Foundation Beyond Belief,

Thank you for your donation to Responsible Charity, Corp! Your donation will be applied towards our work with the children, women, and men of the Park Circus slum in Kolkata, India.

The bulk of it has have been deposited toward our school fund -- we're building our first center in the slums of Kolkata. We need to open a school to eliminate many of the challenges we currently face in the slums. As of today, we've been able to place 11 children in two schools in the area, but it has not been without difficulties and many rejections. We now need to take control of the situation and give more children a place where they are welcome regardless of their caste and prepare them to enter higher education schools.

Namaste!

Wildlife Conservation Network Helps Communities Coexist with Wildlife

Third-quarter animal protection beneficiary Wildlife Conservation Network gave us this report about how they are using the funds contributed by members of Foundation Beyond Belief. Members donated $2,385 to WCN last quarter.

A big thank you from the Wildlife Conservation Network for Foundation Beyond Belief’s gift of $2,385 last quarter! WCN is a unique organization that provides U.S.-based administrative and fundraising support to 13 wildlife conservation projects around the world. Our partner conservationists live directly with local communities working to find strategies that allow humans and wildlife to coexist and thrive.

The funds from Foundation Beyond Belief will directly support our conservation work overseas. Here are just a few of the programs that will benefit from this incredible gift:

  • In Uzbekistan, the Saiga Conservation Alliance is working with the government to create the first national park to protect the critically endangered saiga antelope.
  • Cheetah Conservation Botswana provides farmers with livestock guard dogs that scare away cheetahs that would otherwise be shot and killed to protect cattle.
  • Proyecto Titi in Colombia teaches women how to earn income from weaving beautiful bags made from plastic so they won’t have to exploit the forest home of the rare and tiny cotton-top tamarin.

Thanks to the generosity of FFB’s members, WCN will continue its work to conserve endangered wildlife around the world.

Some Advice from FOF Dallas Member Melanie

The Fellowship of Freethought Dallas has been participating in the AIDS Service of Dallas Ewing House Supper Club since January of 2010. The supper club consists of making a nutritious meal for residents of the home one evening a month. Many of the groups who come in are from churches but as far as we are aware FOF Dallas is the only secular group that participates. It is a fun and rewarding experience, and the patients of Ewing House really appreciate everything FOF Dallas does to keep the service friendly and the menu exciting.

For those of you who are interested in participating in a Supper Club in your own community, Melanie from FOF Dallas has the following helpful tips for you and your group!

Melanie Recommends:

  • Get a rough idea of what other groups are serving. The Ewing House has a record book where each group records the meals that they have served. They tend to get A LOT of casseroles, lasagna, people bringing in fried chicken, etc

The people at the ASD homes are very appreciative of anything brought in; however, I know they get bored with the same thing over and over. Who wouldn’t? So we try to use the cooking talents of our group to make unique meals such as stir fry, savory and sweet “pie night” and so on.
