ENVIRONMENTAL AND ENERGY STUDY INSTITUTE

ENVIRONMENTAL AND ENERGY STUDY INSTITUTEEESI advances innovative policy solutions that set us on a cleaner, more secure and sustainable energy path. We believe that energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainable buildings, transportation, and land management practices can address some of the most important challenges of our time: climate change, the economy, national security, and public health.

Our three-pronged approach for effecting change is based on policymaker education, coalition building, and policy development.

A bipartisan Congressional caucus founded EESI in 1984. Today a diverse Board of Directors made up of environmental, business, academic, and former members of Congress governs EESI. EESI is an independent organization that receives no Congressional funding. EESI maintains its strong relationship with Congress and serves as a trusted source of credible, non-partisan information on energy and environment solutions.

ABOUT THE SELECTION PROCESS

Foundation Beyond Belief highlights five charitable organizations per quarter. Among other considerations, beneficiaries are chosen for efficiency, effectiveness, moderate size (annual budget under $10 million), compatibility with humanist focus on mutual care of this world and this life, and geographic diversity. All categories feature secular organizations with the exception of "Challenge the Gap," which gives members the option of supporting one progressive, non-proselytizing religious organization each quarter.
