The Foundation for African Medicine & Education was founded in 2002 by Frank Artress an American physician, and his wife Susan Gustafson, a counselor and educational psychologist. Frank and Susan have lived and worked in Tanzania for over four years, coordinating and overseeing the day-to-day operations of all FAME projects. The FAME Outpatient Clinic opened in 2008, and the FAME Mobile Medical Service continues to provide medical care to individuals living in very remote villages, people who are simply unable to access medical care in a city or town clinic. The FAME Outpatient Clinic represents Phase 1 of a much larger endeavor. Future projects include expansion of the Outpatient Clinic into a multidisciplinary health facility. This facility will include an Operating Theatre, Intensive Care Unit, inpatient capabilities, expanded diagnostic center, dental service, teaching/resource center. We are also planning to construct volunteer housing for visiting doctors and nurses. Medical needs in Tanzania are extremely pressing. FAME is participating in a vital and worthwhile endeavor, and we welcome your support in helping us move this large-scale project forward.
